Anoushé Husain is an extraordinary human. She’s a champion who does the most miraculous things every single day of her life. Born missing her right arm below the elbow, Anoushé’s constantly breaking the mold and challenging her own potential – both physically and mentally. Even as a cancer survivor battling multiple life-long chronic illnesses, she lives boldly with a brave outlook on life.

Challenges Arise

As a child, Anoushé’s parents pushed her to experience all life has to offer. They encouraged her to do it all and never let her physical difference keep her from reaching her full potential. Competitive sports became her passion. Anoushé was kicking butt and taking names!

All was well until Anoushé’s teenage years. She began experiencing serious issues with her joints leaving her unable to compete. Obviously, Anoushé was completely devastated to leave the world of competitive sports. Unfortunately, the lack of physical activity actually led to even worsening conditions.

Receiving the Diagnoses

Anoushé found herself experiencing chronic pain and fatigue. Subsequently, she underwent multiple surgeries and was diagnosed with cancer as well. Eventually, Anoushé was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a disease that weakens ligaments and tendons in your body causing overly flexible and frequently disconnected joints.

Life was anything but easy.

Imagine being unable to muster the strength to shower or even walk to the kitchen for food. Consider what it would feel like to go from an extremely physically active lifestyle to not ever knowing if the next day would be so tough you could hardly move from your bed. This was Anoushé’s reality.

The amazing part? She never gave up, even in the midst of incredible hardship. Anoushé became stronger in the face of challenges. Without a doubt, she is a total powerhouse!

Climbing Above the Challenges

Incredibly, Anoushé summoned the inner strength to keep pushing through. She eventually took up climbing (a difficult task even for someone with two functioning arms), and she did it in her own unique way. It was her sheer determination that led her to discover the healing power climbing provides. In those moments, one is able to fully escape the challenges of normal life. It’s a time to be free.

Making a Difference

As a result of her discovery of the deep impact climbing can have, Anoushé started a social initiative, Paraclimbing London. As a whole, it aims to make climbing more accessible to those with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities. Climbing sessions are completely free of charge and cater to each individual’s needs.

Paraclimbing London focuses on inclusivity in a fun, empowering way and provides an escape for those facing all sorts of challenges in their own daily lives.

Giving is Good

Anoushé weaves charitable support into her daily life. She’s an ambassador for both Ehlers-Danlos Support UK and Limbpower, charities focused on support for those with limb differences. In addition, she frequently works with other charities making a difference in the world.

Support For All

However, her favorite charity to support is Shine Cancer Support UK. The organization aims to support people who receive a cancer diagnosis in their twenties, thirties, and forties. Oftentimes, there is care support for children or older people fighting cancer battles, but there is not always the same support available to those in between. Shine Cancer Support UK provides resources, support, and community events specifically catering to those in this age range.

"I'm a broken person, but I'm still going to get up and try again."
