Top Takeaways From This Episode

  • Everyone has the right to their own process, but you don’t have to own other’s people’s process.
  • You can do the hard thing, no matter what it is.
  • Being true to yourself is where the real magic happens.

Chris Szabo spent years struggling with her sexual identity.

Raised in a Catholic household, being gay was not acceptable. For years, she quieted the feelings she was experiencing. Chris assumed it was just a “phase,” she was wrong.  Constantly searching for validation, Chris looked outside of herself. As you may expect, her sources of validation always shifted and never satisfied. Depression and anxiety were constant companions. The journey was overwhelming and lonely, to say the least.

Not the life she had imagined.

Chris’s journey shifted course after 18 years of marriage. To her utter surprise, she fell in love with a close friend, Amy. After admitting this to herself, Chris knew it was time to be honest with everyone involved, including herself. This was her opportunity to live the life she was destined for. Summoning all her strength and courage, she ended her marriage and begin a new journey down the path of true authenticity.
