Gough joins us all the way from the Gold Coast in Australia. He’s the first blind person in the world to write, edit, produce, direct, and star in a feature film unassisted. He never allows his disability to get in the way of what he wants in life – which is seriously amazing and brave! Additionally, Gough shows us the power in trusting ourselves and believing in our abilities.
When Education Embraces Abilities
Gough experienced a hemorrhagic stroke at just 12 weeks old. Subsequently, he tragically lost most of his eyesight. As a result, he started his life with a distinct disadvantage. However, Gough never viewed his life this way! He attributes much of this positive mindset to a wonderful primary school experience. All children were encouraged to believe in their own abilities. No one was excluded, and everyone was built up to achieve success.
gough’s high school experience was not as wonderful. Children with disabilities were separated and not allowed to participate in many of the normal activities that come along with schooling. It was here that Gough realized the impact that mindset truly has. He learned there is no reason why anyone – no matter their abilities – shouldn’t reach for their dreams. It may just require thinking outside the box.
The Power of Positive Mindset
Gogh's interest in storytelling led him to writing and, eventually, film production. Again, the power of positive mindset came into play. He never focused on the things he couldn’t do; he simply followed his passion and forged his own path. gough’s drive never ceases, and he continues creating to this day.
gough’s company, Beernuts Productions, has produced 17 films to date. Truly, human capacity is amazing! Originally, Gough couldn’t secure the necessary funding to create his films, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. Every single film is completely independent. Gough writes and directs them. He focuses on his abilities and makes his dreams a reality! Without a doubt, we could all benefit from following Gough's example.
Friends, trust yourself. Also, believe in your abilities!
