Top Takeaways From This Episode

  • It’s never too early (or late) to start checking off your bucket list
  • If you ask nicely you can get your way
  • Big decisions require a lot of planning; if you fall short on some of that planning it’s okay as long as you don’t give up
  • Don’t let your current misfortunes dictate your future success

Breaking The Status Quo

Growing up in an Indian household one thing was always expected, the man MUST provide for his family. This expectation came above all else, including your own joy. This wasn’t the life that Burhaan Pattel envisioned for himself. One day after he found himself broke and eating yet another peanut butter sandwich he realized something amazing; he didn’t need to subscribe to this expectation anymore.

100 Days to Change Your Life

After deciding to break from the status quo Burhaan knew that he had to come up with a game plan. He gave himself 100 days to get his affairs in order and leave his past life behind him. After selling all of his worldly possessions and asking very nicely for a favor from his ex-wife Burhaan was on his way to change the world. The first destination? Bali for 6 weeks.

Surviving Rather than Thriving

In Bali Burhaan took on a few new clients over Upwork, this is how he was able to pay his bills. Burhaan was surviving, but it was all worth it to finally be living his dream. One day he met a Yoga instructor who told him where to go next. Burhaan followed his gut and found success in excess in his travels.

Staying Relevant

With customers all over the world, Burhaan had to find a way to stay relevant and connect at all hours of the day. Burhaan launched The Marketing Stack Podcast to reach new audiences and to stay up to date on all of his projects. Currently, Burhaan is working on creating a new app to help even more people with their course marketing needs you can find more information on his website.

Giving is Good

For Burhaan was growing up, in South Africa, he saw firsthand the disparities in clean water security. He even knows people who still walk miles for clean drinking water for their families and that is why he has chosen to support Charity Water this week and every week.

Since charity: water was founded in 2006, we’ve been chasing one ambitious goal: ending the global water crisis. And while the water crisis is huge, we’re optimistic. We know how to solve the problem, and we make progress every day thanks to the help of local partners and generous supporters. If we work together, we believe everyone will have access to life’s most basic needs within our lifetime.

"Making the decision to get married and divorced was the hardest decision I ever made… deciding to leave was the easiest decision I ever made."
