Top Takeaways From This Episode

  • There’s value in simply writing about what you know.
  • Your experience matters!
  • Deadlines, accountability, and celebration really do work at moving you towards your goals.
  • There are no rules in life. YOU get to decide.

At six months pregnant, Julie Schooler suddenly lost her job. She worked as an accountant and business analyst with a company for seven years, so she did not take the news well. The feeling of rejection overwhelmed every area of her life, and she didn’t know what to do.

Unsure where to go next, Julie met with a coach. She processed her emotions and reassessed what was most important in her life. It was then that Julie decided to write and self-publish her first book. In Julie’s words, she “drank from the firehose” when it came to making it happen!

A Seed of Doubt

While Julie jumped right into her new path as a writer, imposter syndrome played a huge role in her journey. There are a lot of experts out there, so it’s easy to get swept up in feelings of inadequacy. The battle of feeling “good enough” is something we all face at times. And Julie was no exception.

However, through grit and perseverance, Julie learned that her book would be perfect for the right person. She soon believed her experience and knowledge mattered. Without a doubt, Julie’s perspective shifted when she decided to focus on her personal areas of expertise.

We are all experts in some shape or form. You just need to discover what that means for you.

Julie’s Advice

Anyone with children knows the entrepreneurial lifestyle (specifically scheduling and balancing it all) is challenging. Julie understands this firsthand. In turn, she focuses her energy on merging writing and family time effectively. Her best advice is to find the flow that works for you. Everyone’s system looks different from the next, and there’s no cookie-cutter process. Accountability, planning, and taking enough time to actually enjoy life is where you’ll find balance.
