Audrey Holt has a history of things not going her way.
Through a life of trial and error, she has learned to make brave decisions and pivot when life’s plans start to fall apart. Fortitude, defined as courage in pain or adversity, is certainly what Audrey is all about.
Audrey describes herself as sensitive but energetic. These traits, she says, when combined, can be tricky. They are especially difficult during times of isolation and when the weight of the world is heavy (hello – COVID-19 and Shelter in Place!).
Audrey shared that, as a child, she cried a lot, but also required plenty of time outside to run and play. It seems this sadness and need for nature and fresh air is something we can all relate to right now.
Taking A Different Path
After college, Audrey went from working in the equestrian world to the corporate one, as suggested by her father. She quickly realized that being behind a desk all day was not what she wanted. She was simply not content and began practicing yoga to deal with daily stress. Eventually, she mustered up some serious courage and left corporate life to teach yoga full time. To her surprise, when a timely opportunity arose, she co-opened a yoga studio with her friend.
Trying Something New, Again
It didn’t take long for Audrey to see that, although she loved yoga, owning the studio not fulfilling her. So, yet again, she did something brave. She “peacefully dissolved” the business partnership with her friend, realizing her calling was elsewhere – although she wasn’t sure what it was. At a crossroads, Audrey remembered a yoga student mentioning that she’d make a great life coach. This is why her business, Fortitude and Flow, came to life. It’s Audrey’s truest joy to take her lived experiences and help others live bold, brave lives when the plans they set in place dissolve.
Ongoing Advice
Aubrey explains how her journey through career changes was full of “brave making” moments. These moments, she suggests, are often found in failure. Remarkably, they can often be overcome with the support of community and through the collective sense of safety. This is a priceless bit of knowledge to possess right now, as we all redefine what community and support look like! This episode also offers listeners tips on facing fear and serving others while finding ourselves.
