Top Takeaways From This Episode

  • Forgiveness is something we teach ourselves. It’s about those who forgive, not about the forgiven.
  • Not all connections need to be understood to be appreciated
  • Sometimes all it takes is one person to share their story to not feel so alone.
  • Shedding everything is sometimes the only thing to push us to our own self-empowerment
  • Share your story, you never know who may be affected by it
  • You do not have to be religious to be spiritual

Forgiveness is something we teach ourselves.

Beth Hughes has a story so many can relate to, unfortunately, this is no fairytale. Beth’s story begins as a survivor of domestic sexual assault. As she was in the military at the time, those around her tried to keep her silent. Beth refused to be silent. Instead, she stood up and advocated for herself. Fortunately, and unlike many, Beth was able to escape the abusive relationship. Years later she even found strength in forgiving her abuser.

A family visit gone wrong

Divorced and having no contact with her ex-husband, Beth still wanted her son to have a healthy relationship with his paternal grandparents. Thus they embarked upon a trip that was meant to last a weekend and ended up blowing Beth’s world apart.

The phone call that changed eveything

As Beth was preparing to fly back and pick her son up from his visit, she received a phone call that brought her life to a screeching halt. She received news that no parent ever wants to receive. Her son sweet, beautiful, four-year-old, son was dead, trampled in a freak accident while visiting a local lake. Although this devastating news completely broke Beth, it didn’t jade her. In fact, it made her stronger than ever. While others would choose blame, Beth chose resilience and forgiveness.

Chasing his spirit

Beth constantly chooses celebration over grief in regards to her son. Every year on his birthday and departure day (what Beth calls his date of passing), Beth takes a trip someplace new to connect with her Eric's spirit. Choosing celebration every year is what, eventually, allowed her to live a nomadic lifestyle and travel the globe. Selling all of her possessions and buying an RV nine years ago secured her connection to her son in ways she had never thought possible.

Sharing stories to heal

Beth’s oldest (living) son has long said that she needed to share her stories with the world. She has an energetic connection to the world that everybody must hear. Unexpectedly, her life was completely altered when she chose to answer a TikTok question about “the worst phone call she’s ever received.”

The next thing she knew, people were asking to hear more of her story and her spiritual connection with her Eric. The story went viral and Beth realized that her connection to her son could be important to others besides herself. She has amassed close to forty thousand followers on TikTok simply by sharing her beautiful story.
