Back in the Day
As a young kid, Alan couldn’t get enough of singing, performing, and acting. He simply knew he was destined for a life on the stage. Until one day when Alan was only 8 years old and his father brought home a computer; He immediately latched onto deconstructing this technology to find out how to put it back together.
Now there were two passions: performing and tech. As he approached college, his mom said “You can act with a computer science degree, but can’t do computer science with an acting degree,” Alan graduated with a degree in computer science and he switched back and forth between his two loves.
Volunteer Your Way In
What started off as a volunteer position at Google turned into a job offer that Alan manifested for himself. Bringing his left brain and right brain together to become Global Program Lead for the Talks at Google speaker series which is responsible for bringing in the world’s top talents in their respective fields to share their knowledge and inspire people on a global scale.
Embracing Chance
A chance interview with Dori Berinstein would change Alan’s world, and the world of Broadway forever. What was supposed to be a quick chat turned into an hours-long meeting of the minds. Before he knew it, the Broadway Podcast Network was born. With the mentality that “a rising tide lifts all ships,” Alan and Dori got to work to build a network of over 130 podcasts. The network which was started on a whim reaches as far as Antarctica. Be sure to check out Was It Chance – The podcast about embracing opportunity and taking intentional risks for your creative life, hosted by Alan and Heather Vickery.
