The Importance of Name
It takes a very strong, self-assured person to change their name! But it’s imperative that we truly identify with our names. They must fit us, to the core. When this week's guest, Sloane, took a good look at her life, she realized her given name wasn’t fit for the future she was shaping. Sloane is a name with Irish roots that means Warrior. And that’s just what this guest is.
“Everything Felt So Much Lighter”
Sloane started her journey as a corporate attorney. Though she “created success” she ended up feeling depleted and running on low in this male-dominated industry. She was sleeping only 3-4 hours a night, becoming a workaholic to build her law firm. Slowly, however, she began to not just help her clients with law, but also coach them on mindset and growth. A little over three years ago, she sold the law firm to become a full-time coach. It was at this moment she felt the most “her” she ever had.
And yet, she was lonely. Sloane broke up with her long-term partner, put all of her relationships on hold, and spent 4-5 months working on herself. Despite her business growing, she understood that it wasn’t quite “right.” She’d been coaching lawyers to build law firms, and that was never her end goal. She couldn’t “see her way out” and was scared to change her life too drastically.
But through the ashes of Sloane’s life, she created something beautiful. The Phoenix Collective is the community element of her coaching business. Women supporting each other to grow into their highest selves.
You Will Survive
Sloane created her life with every intention she could. She road mapped how she wanted it, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. The path required vulnerability, honesty with herself and also with the people around her. Sloane began speaking her truth despite possible rejection and hurt. Not easy for a self-described “recovering people pleaser.”
Incorporating intentional living is powerful. Whether it’s a glow stick dance party or buying yourself chocolates and taking yourself on a date. Small moments of joy help Sloane immensely along her journey and allows her to stay grounded in her life’s dreams.
