Self-Trust: A Magic Wand

Learning to trust yourself is like having a magic wand. But it's not easy and takes a lot of work!

Many of us have experienced a significant shift over the last several months. To put it simply, it’s been a period of true awakening. Whether in the way you conduct yourself professionally or the ways in which you move through your personal life. During this time of uncertainty, stress, and forced stillness, we’ve all learned something new. For many, it’s been an eye-opening experience, and I am no exception.

One of the things I think is most notable is that while there are many things we want to go back to, there are many things we want to leave behind!

For about six weeks, I hit the pause button. I was overwhelmed and burned out. Life was moving both at warp speed and at a snail’s pace. I truly couldn’t find my stride. In all honesty, I was at a loss. I’m the one who’s supposed to coach, encourage, and motivate, right?! Yes, I’m human, but it all felt like too much.

But here’s the thing…

Once I gave myself permission to slow down, everything changed.

I didn’t feel guilty, and I was finally able to get back on track with what mattered the most to me. Alignment happened when I told myself it was okay to pause. Once I embraced it all – the challenges, the emotions, the adjustments, and the learning curve – I was able to find my groove again. I recharged, and then I took action. (But here’s a little secret, sometimes I need to go back to pause – and I have learned to let that be ok!)

And you know what? It was exactly what I needed.

Now I’m able to step up and discover new ways to support those around me. I’m working with clients as they make significant changes to their businesses. It’s been intense, but it’s been worth it.

As I continue to connect to gratitude and intertwine myself even more deeply with my community, I’m reflecting on what this season of life is teaching me. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on the lessons amidst the struggle, but I know it’s important.

So here we are.

I’m diving in; I’m moving forward. And I’d love to share these reflections with you.

There are a few things I’ve learned to fall back on with certainty…

There’s value in learning to trust yourself.

Trust is a heavy word, but it’s vital when focusing on living with intention. How can you move forward in a way that brings you peace when you don’t fully trust you’re heading in the right direction? That’s a loaded question, for sure, but it brings something super important to the forefront. You have to learn to trust yourself.

When life feels uncertain or things feel especially challenging, you can’t always trust what’s happening around you. This is where trusting in your own abilities and intuition come into play. When it comes to your life, you are the constant. Working to grow that trust in yourself – above all else – is the way to go. If you ask me, it’s the ultimate form of bravery.

You know what’s right for you, your family, and your business, so trust that you will pull through.

Find space when you need it.

This is a big one. Space is a necessary component of finding balance. It’s nearly impossible to maintain a positive and determined mindset in life when you don’t allow yourself time to simply be present. It’s certainly easy to get caught up in growth or fighting for an important cause, but every human needs rest. (Check out this episode of The Brave Files Podcast for more information about The Gifts of Rest. It’s seriously worth a listen!) Trust me – I’ve learned this the hard way. It’s hard to power through when you feel like you have nothing left in the tank.

And finally…Give yourself grace.

It’s okay to do nothing sometimes, and you don’t need to feel guilty about it! You’re human, and you’re doing the best you can. If you stumble, take a moment to look around. Think about where you are and where you’ve been. Then use that to make a plan for where you’ll go.

No one’s journey is perfect, and that’s okay.

It’s important to be gentle with yourself. Grace is for everyone, my friend!
