Dreamscaping – The Power of Creating a Clear Vision

What do you believe is possible? If you could do or be anything in the world what would it be?

Vision work isn’t about building a strategic plan, or following a roadmap someone else put in front of you. And dreaming isn’t just a flight of fancy!

Many of us are stuck in the creation mode of what we’re doing at this exact moment. And yet, we have no real clue what the hell we’re actually working towards!

The truth is, you can’t get where you’re going if you don’t know where that is!

The journey towards finding true happiness is about dreaming up big, scary, wonderful things and then building them. It’s about being in the pursuit of your own greatness and believing in your ability to achieve it.

First you have to dream it. Then you have to get into action and build it.

“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.” – Joel A. Barker

If you want to make real, sustainable changes in your life and, therefore, your business, you want to be intentionally working towards a clear vision that delights and THRILLS you.

Vision work is nothing new

People have been doing this work for a long time! The concept of visioning or vision work actually dates to the late 1950s and early 60s. (and I’m sure Aristotle did it also because this concept is, really, not new!)

The late Ron Lippitt called it ‘Preferred Futuring” and found that when people focused on the end result, rather than the litany of logistical issues, the energy level in a room went up.

Why? Because it motivates people to go after the future of their choosing.  That’s right, friends … You get to create the future of your dreams. But first, you have to dream it with wild abandon.

What is Dreamscaping?

I like to be a little off the cuff, more inventive and make things a little more fun. For that reason, I’ve dubbed my intentional vision/dream building experience: dreamscaping.

Dreamscaping can be done at every level and in every area of your business and life. The entire point is to intersect the two. In fact, the REAL point is to decide what you want your life to be like, and build your business to fit into that dream.

No matter how big or small the goal, in order to be effective, make sure your vision / dreamscape is checking off all these boxes:

  • Inspiring to all that will be involved in implementing it, especially YOU!
  • Documented This could be through journaling, a Trello board, a vision board or anything that lights your heart up!
  • Communicated to those around you. This allows others to help you stay accountable and take intentional action towards achieving your dreams.
  • Actionable dreams and vision require intentional plans. Once you’ve dreamt it, you will be able to identify what action steps can help get you there.

With these four elements, a clear vision will provide you with the focus, energize and give you the endurance you need to make REAL magic happen in your life. Here’s how…

Stay Focused

A clear vision enables you to keep your eyes fixed on your desired objective.

It also prevents you from falling victim to distractions that, though look good at the time, may ultimately cause you to lose focus, misstep and stray from your path.

If you’re operating without a clear, focused vision, you might as well be another floating blob in the universe, carelessly moving from one task to the next without a sense of purpose.

Don’t be a blob!! Set intention in your life by creating a clear vision that keeps you focused, grounded and heart-centered in your business.

Stay Energized

Another major perk of creating a clear vision? It will energize you and remain at the forefront of your mind when things get hard.

I start all my planning work with a draft of a positive vision of the future because, without it, it’s easy to be dragged down by all the bullshit pressures and expectations.

Once you start thinking about what success is going to look and feel like, the ideas and creativity begin to flow more freely.

Dreamscaping elevates my team and I to a more positive energy level and a clear vision becomes the spark plug that transforms stagnancy into action.

Stay the Course

Lastly, creating a clear vision for your future success will provide you with the endurance you need to stay the course.

It’s easier to keep going when you’ve already committed to getting a successful outcome—especially when you already have a well-documented, rock-solid idea of what that outcome, or vision, looks like.

Keeping a clear vision close to your heart and top-of-mind will give you the push you need to overcome that sense of impending doom and to Keep. Moving. Forward.

Making Magic Happen

I know, for many of you, dreaming of a beautiful future feels scary and hard. Perhaps you’ve spent your life believing you are not worthy of big dreams. But trust me, you are!

Years ago, I interviewed a woman named Jennifer Royal on my podcast, The Brave Files. Jennifer is a German magician and hypnotist. She is also a mindset coach for entrepreneurs. At the time of our conversation, I had just published my first book, Shift Your Focus and as we were about to end the interview Jennifer congratulated me on the book and said “Look, Heather, you’re a magician also. You took something that was invisible and made it visible. It started in your mind and now you hold it in your hands”

It was one of the most awe-inspiring moments of my life. So, I ask you this… What will you take from invisible to visible? Because you’re a magician, also.
I urge you to listen to the entire episode, Magic Mindset. Just one caveat—This is a very old episode. We’ve learned a lot in the last three years and the sound quality here leaves something to be desired. Stick with it anyway. It’s worth every moment.
