Get out of your own way and start taking your business seriously!

Do you believe in your work—your business, your side-hustle, your passion project?

I mean, do you REALLY believe in it?

Does it get you excited? Does it make you feel good? Do you passionately and whole-heartedly believe that there is purpose in it and that it will make a positive impact on the world AND others?

Do you really believe in it and yet….you’re not doing it. Or you’re kind of doing it…in a one-foot-out-the-door sort of way. Maybe you find yourself making excuses or talking your way out of doing it.

Is that you? Did your heartbeat quicken and your stomach tighten reading that?

If so, I want you to sit with me and imagine for a moment…what would be possible for you if you stopped standing in your own way and started taking your business more seriously?

ARE YOU STANDING IN YOUR OWN WAY?

Gay Hendricks talks about our “upper limit problem” in his book The Big Leap. and it paints a great picture for how we are capable of – and often – self-sabotage our own success.

Here’s the basic idea.

Each of us has an internal thermometer for how much success, wealth, happiness, love, and intimacy we’ll let ourselves experience. That’s our upper limit setting. Kind of like our success comfort zone.

When you exceed your internal thermostat setting and good things start flowing your way—an influx of money, health, a great relationship, etc.—you subconsciously do things to sabotage yourself so you can drop back to the old, familiar place where you feel in control.

Unfortunately, nobody can escape this. Luckily, though, with a little self-awareness and self-compassion, we can work through our limiting voices, step out of our comfort zones and expand our tolerances for all the wonderful things in our life.

Remember to give yourself grace. Expansion feels uncomfortable—even painful, at times. But, there is beauty and growth awaiting you on the other side.

HOW ARE YOU SPENDING YOUR TIME?

Once you allow yourself the space to move forward, it’s time to take action. How you spend your time is a great indicator of where your heart and priorities are.

You can begin to set yourself up for success by first learning to be aware of how you’re spending your time and then consciously and intentionally changing those patterns, habits and routines.

It’s INSANE how wildly impactful this can be!

The cool thing about awareness is that the more you have of it, the more your mind and body begin to subconsciously follow suit.

Start this journey by first becoming aware and mindful of:

  • What you want more or less of
  • Who you want to be
  • How you want to feel
  • What you want to celebrate
  • What brings you joy
  • What makes you feel bad

Then, you can begin to have more intentional conversations, set intentional schedules, surround yourself with more thoughtful network groups, build a supportive community, ask for accountability and delegate to build the life and business you’ve dreamt about.

WHEW, what a list! We are turning dreams into reality, baby!

The more clear you are about what you’re looking for, what you’re working towards and what you want to build, the easier they will come to you.

WHAT IF THERE WAS A BETTER WAY?

If you’re serious about yourself, your business and expanding the gifts you bring into the world, then it’s time to take the BRAVE leap.

It’s time to transform into who and what you were intended for.

And that looks different for everyone.

When we don’t know what to do, we do what we know. In some cases, that safety net is a necessary comfort, but in others it may be an indicator that we need to try something different—whether that’s a new approach or asking for help.

Oftentimes, it’s necessary to lose our present circumstance to make room for what's on the horizon. It takes thoughtful intention, commitment, accountability and dedication to let go of the things that no longer serve you and usher in beautiful, new, bigger, better things.

If you’re ready to do something different, then that’s the first step and indicator that you’re serious.
